Digital Designer Position at Dotsavvy (Entry-Level to Mid-Level)

About Dotsavvy

Dotsavvy is Kenya’s first digital business agency, providing integrated digital solutions to some of Kenya’s and Africa’s biggest businesses and most beloved brands. Founded in 2002 as one of East Africa’s pioneer web design agencies, we have evolved into an agent of change for progressive organizations – using digital strategy, creative marketing, and innovative design to disrupt the status quo. We’re a small, passionate team (fewer than 20 people) where everyone has the opportunity to wear many hats and grow from within. Our culture embraces bold ideas, collaboration, and doing whatever it takes to deliver great digital experiences for our clients. Our commitment to building digital offerings has never wavered, and we’re constantly on the lookout for special talent to join us in shaping the future of digital in Kenya and the rest of Africa.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Digital Designer to join our dynamic team and help craft engaging visual content across a range of digital platforms. In this role, you will translate ideas and brand guidelines into eye-catching designs for websites, social media, email campaigns, digital advertisements, and more. You will work closely with senior designers, marketers, developers, and project managers to ensure our creative output not only looks great but also meets strategic goals. This position is perfect for a creative, curious designer who is eager to learn, experiment, and make an impact in a fast-paced agency environment where design directly influences business outcomes. If you have a talent for turning creative briefs into compelling visuals and a passion for digital-first design, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Production: Create a wide range of digital assets, including social media graphics, website and landing page layouts, email newsletter designs, online advertisements (display banners, paid social creatives), infographics, and other visual content. Ensure all designs are on-brand, visually appealing, and optimized for each platform or device.
  • Collaborative Creative Process: Work closely with the senior digital designer and cross-functional teams (marketing, content, development, and project management) to brainstorm and develop concepts that meet campaign objectives and user needs. Translate brand visuals and copy into cohesive designs across different digital channels, maintaining a consistent look and feel.
  • Interactive and Motion Design: Bring static designs to life by incorporating basic animations or GIFs when appropriate (for example, animated social posts or banner ads) to enhance engagement. Edit and repurpose existing video or graphic content into new formats (short clips, motion graphics) optimized for platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok as needed.
  • Multiple Projects & Deadlines: Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines. Prioritize tasks with guidance from project managers and maintain organized files and asset libraries for efficient workflow. Show professionalism in delivering high-quality work on time and adapting quickly to shifting priorities.
  • Brand Consistency: Uphold and reinforce client brand identity in every piece of content. Ensure design elements (fonts, colors, imagery, layout) are consistent with client brand guidelines across all materials. Help update and organize design libraries and digital asset repositories, so that our visual materials are easily accessible and uniformly applied.
  • Feedback and Iteration: Receive and incorporate feedback from team members and clients to refine designs. Participate in creative review meetings, offering your ideas and listening to constructive criticism. Learn and implement design best practices through collaboration and iterative improvement, striving to elevate the quality of our creative output with each version.
  • User Experience Focus: Support the design of user interfaces (UI) and user experiences (UX) for web pages or campaign landing pages that are not only visually appealing but also intuitive and conversion-focused. Work with developers to understand any technical constraints and ensure that your designs can be faithfully implemented (responsive layouts, web-safe designs, etc.).
  • Data-Driven Design: Leverage data and insights to improve design effectiveness. Collaborate with the marketing team to understand audience behavior and campaign performance – for instance, which ad creatives get better engagement or which landing page layout converts more users. Use these insights to inform your design decisions, and be willing to A/B test different design approaches when applicable. (Experience with conversion rate optimization tools or methods is a plus, but not required at this level.)
  • Staying Current: Stay abreast of the latest trends, tools, and best practices in digital design and digital marketing. Continuously research emerging design techniques, social media platform updates (new ad formats or design specifications), and industry trends in branding and user experience. Bring fresh ideas to the team to ensure our creative work remains cutting-edge and effective.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 1–3+ years of experience in graphic design or digital design (agency or in-house environment). This role is ideal for an entry-level to mid-level designer who has some hands-on experience creating digital marketing assets.
  • Design Software Proficiency: Strong skills in modern design tools. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) and Figma is required. Familiarity with additional design or creative tools is an added advantage. Basic knowledge of motion design/video editing software (e.g. Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro) is a plus for creating simple animations or edited videos.
  • Web and Tech Knowledge: Understanding of web design principles and responsive design. Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (or the ability to work closely with front-end developers) to ensure designs can be implemented as intended is beneficial. Experience designing UI/UX for websites or applications is a plus.
  • Creativity & Visual Skills: A keen eye for good design, layout, typography, and color. Ability to create visually compelling and user-focused designs that grab attention and communicate clearly. Highly creative with the ability to generate new ideas that engage, inform, and motivate target audiences.
  • Attention to Detail: Detail-oriented and obsessed with quality, ensuring pixel-perfect execution in all deliverables. Ability to follow brand guidelines and also know when to push creative boundaries appropriately.
  • Analytical & Data-Driven Thinking: While creativity is key, being able to think analytically is important. Willingness to interpret data or user feedback to tweak designs for better performance. Up-to-date with the latest trends in digital marketing and aware of how design impacts metrics like click-through rates, conversions, and user engagement. (Prior experience with A/B testing, analytics, or CRO is a bonus.)
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate design choices and collaborate with team members from different departments. Comfortable receiving feedback and working in a team-centric, fast-paced environment. A positive attitude and professionalism when communicating with clients and colleagues.
  • Time Management: Strong organizational skills and ability to manage your time effectively. Proven ability to handle multiple tasks/projects at once and meet deadlines. Self-motivated and able to take initiative when given a new project or challenge.
  • Tool and Platform Knowledge: Up-to-date understanding of social media and digital advertising platforms from a design perspective. Familiarity with the specifications and best practices for designing content on platforms like Facebook/Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok, Google Display Network, etc. is highly desirable. Knowing how to optimize images and files for web (performance optimization) is also important.
  • Education: A diploma or degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media, Fine Arts, or a related field is preferred – or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • Portfolio: A strong portfolio of your recent work is required. Please provide examples of digital design projects you’ve worked on (social media graphics, web or email designs, ads, etc.). We are especially interested in seeing your best and most relevant pieces that showcase your skills and creativity in digital media.
